It takes a community to fight COVID-19. Thank you to everyone for your help.

David Colwell, President, JBS Canada

As we enter a new phase in the fight against COVID-19, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you to our team members, thank you to Brooks and surrounding rural communities, thank you cattle ranchers and thank you health, labour and government officials.

It has not been easy. In fact, on some days, it has been incredibly hard, but working together, we have learnt how to stay safe and get the job done.

The JBS beef facility in Brooks, Alberta, is a vital part of Canada’s food supply, but it is also the cornerstone of our local community. All of the people who work there aren’t just employees; they’re friends, neighbours and family members.

As a company, we have always maintained a relentless commitment to evolving our strategy, our processes and our products to the latest standards of quality and excellence. It has guided well for over 60 years. It is with that same mindset that we are now charting a course for a safe future.

Safety is priority #1. Since January, we have proactively identified and adopted more than 100 preventive measures at the Brooks facility to ensure a safe working environment for our team members. This includes providing face masks and face shields to be worn at all times for operations in the facility and providing physical partitions on production lines.

Moving forward, we will continue to monitor COVID-19 testing and our risk mitigation daily. We will continue to make all decisions based on the best available data and advice from both our team members and public health experts.

The mental and physical health of our team will remain our top daily focus. Our JBS community support program is designed to help any team member with everything from health-related matters, to how to apply for financial assistance, to ensure proper nutrition. We encourage our team members to reach out to us directly or via Facebook.

We may not know what the next challenge will be, but we do know as a community we can adapt to meet it head-on. Please stay safe, follow the health advisories and look after each other. It continues to serve us well.

Our families, our team members, our communities. Against COVID-19.
